Not many events in the world capture the same essence of willpower and grit like the Paralympics.
Every year, there are countless Paralympians that overcome hardships and adversities, representing their countries and doing them proud. Paralympians are incredibly inspirational to begin with, but there are few that we need to know about!

In the Rio Paralympics 2016, a visually impaired athlete, Abdellatif Baka ran an astonishing time of 3:48.29 minutes in the 1500 metres T13 final. This bested the American Olympic gold medallist, Matthew Centrowitz, timing of 3:50.00. This incredible timing was captured as one of the greatest moments of Paralympic Games.

Ibrahim Hamadtou captured the attention of the internet with his “nothing is impossible” YouTube video in 2014, where he showcased himself playing table tennis despite having no arms. In 2016, he brought his skills to the global level where he participated in Paralympic table tennis as the only athlete with no arms. During the games, Hamadtou held the paddle in his mouth and served the ball using his feet. Even though he lost both matches, but his involvement itself garnered the respect of everyone.

Polish discus thrower, Piotr Malachowski, is not a Paralympian but gained the respect of many for what he did in Rio Olympics 2016. After winning a silver medal, he immediately put that medal up for auction to help raise funds for a three year old boy’s cancer treatment. The Polish foundation Siepomaga had raised about one third of $126,000 and Malachowski’s goal was to raise enough money to help the boy get surgery in New York to try to save his eyesight. Shortly after the auction begin, the kindness of the world prevailed when a wealthy polish couple committed to covering the rest of the amount needed.
